During Community Conservation Day our conservators provide advice on how to protect and care for your valuable items, blending science, history, and art to preserve your most treasured possessions. This includes managing factors like humidity, light levels, and temperature to avoid further damage. They also guide you on the best ways to store, handle, and display your items.
When are community consultation days?
Community consultation days happen once a month! While it is usually the second and third Thursday of every month, this can change depending on our schedule. Keep an eye on our social media for updates.
What should I expect from a Community Consultation appointment?
You will be assigned a 30-minute time slot, during which the Conservator will briefly examine the item and do their best to answer any questions you may have on the condition and construction of the piece. They then will provide advice on storage, display methods, and the best path forward to prevent any further damage. If the Conservator feels there is a need for further treatment or exam, they will discuss potential next steps, the desired outcome for the item, and any budgetary considerations.
How much does a Community Consultation day cost?
Community consultation days are provided for free with a suggested donation amount of your choosing.
What happens if I want my item to be treated or my item needs treatment?
If an item is in need of some TLC, we will typically suggest a more detailed exam of around 1-3 hours depending on the item. From there we will make a detailed treatment proposal for you to approve. The cost of exams and treatment both fall under our standard hourly rate of $165/hr. We will do our best to work with clients to find a treatment plan that is best for the piece and also can fit their budget.
Can you tell me how much my item is worth?
We cannot! We do not appraise items. We only evaluate the condition of the item.
Can you authenticate my item?
No, but we CAN provide information about how an artwork was created and with what materials.
