DANA SPRINGS | Board President
Deputy Chief for Administration, San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program
Dana Springs oversees the IT, HR, finance and communications functions for San Diego Volunteer Lawyer Program, a nonprofit law firm providing free legal services to victims of crime, abuse and discrimination. As Interim Administration Director, Springs managed San Diego Museum Council’s operations from 2020 to 2021. She served as the Mayor-appointed Executive Director of the City of San Diego Commission for Arts and Culture from 2012 to 2018, and directed $15 million in public arts and culture programs for a population of 1.3 million people. Springs has 12 years of public art project management experience, and holds a B.A. in visual art from UCSD. She has consulted for Americans for the Arts, Caltrans, San Diego International Airport, and San Diego Smart Cities Accelerator Labs.

ROLANDO CHARVEL, CPA | Board Treasurer
Comptroller and Director of Finance for the City of San Diego
Rolando Charvel, CPA develops an annual budget of $4.6 billion and oversees long-term financial planning for the City of San Diego. He previously served as Controller for the San Diego City Employees’ Retirement System overseeing accounting and reporting for $5 billion in investments and $310 million in annual pension contributions. Charvel is a member of the Government Finance Officers Association of the United States & Canada and serves on the San Diego Workforce Partnership’s Audit Committee. He holds a BS in Accounting from San Diego State University and lives in Chula Vista with his wife and two children.
  
KRISTIN BEATTIE | Board Secretary 
Director of Academic Labor and Employee Relations, UC Irvine
Kristin Beattie is an attorney with more than 20 years in employment law. She currently works as the Director of Academic Labor and Employee Relations at UC Irvine, where she assists management on a wide range of labor and employment issues. She works creatively and collaboratively with management to achieve their priorities, regularly provides training, and recommends strategies for minimizing risk. Prior to joining UCI she spent 5 years at UC San Diego as a labor relations advocate. Prior to that Beattie served as an advisory attorney at the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, and before that, for over a decade, as a Senior Deputy City Attorney for the City of San Diego. In the City Attorney’s Criminal and Community Justice Divisions, she prosecuted criminal cases and had the opportunity to focus on innovative enforcement strategies, restorative justice, and community partnerships. She also served as training coordinator for the division and was the lead deputy for ethics and discovery. She volunteers at her time to support Lawyers Club of San Diego and Riverview International Academy – and during the summer, enjoys visiting her aunt who is a long-time juried exhibitor at the Laguna Beach Festival of Arts. She received her JD from Loyola Law School and her undergraduate degree from Stanford. She served on BACC’s audit committee in 2021.

TOM CALLAS
Collections Registrar, Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles
With nearly 25 years of experience as a registrar at art museums Tom Callas holds a wealth of specialized expertise in the care, storage, and transportation of artwork. He has held registrar positions at several museums including The Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles, the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego, the Museum of Photographic Arts in San Diego, and the Orange County Museum of Art. Prior to his work as a registrar, he worked as a project manager and research assistant. He received his Bachelor of Arts in History from in Pomona College, and Bachelor of Education from the McGill University in Montreal Quebec.

TIMOTHY L. CAMPBELL
Registrar, Laguna Art Museum
Tim Campbell is the registrar at the Laguna Art Museum and has broad experience working in collections care. Prior to his work at the Laguna Art Museum Campbell worked as Collections Manager at the Bowers Museum of Cultural Art, and was a visiting researcher at the Tokyo University Museum in Japan. Campbell also worked at Disney’s Animation Research Library for a decade learning about art conservation, creation and tracking of digital images, the different approaches of archives vs. museums, and the licensing of intellectual property. Following his work with Disney, Campbell worked at Blizzard Entertainment to start a culture of exhibitions, providing access to art created over the company’s 20-year history.  He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Biology and English from Occidental College. 

ANYA DANI
Objects Conservator, Stanford University Archeology Collections
Anya Dani (she/her) is an Objects Conservator with over twenty years of experience who centers anti-racism, equity, and inclusion in her work. She is currently working for the Stanford University Archaeology Collections (SUAC) on a detailed conservation survey that incorporates principles of social responsibility, community collaboration, and sustainability. Anya is the current co-chair of the American Institute for Conservation’s Equity & Inclusion Committee and a co-founder of the Black Art Conservators Group. Previously, Anya spent almost 10 years working at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) in Okinawa, Japan where she worked on collaborative conservation research and treatment projects with the university, local museums, and artists. Through OIST, she was also able to collaborate with institutions such as the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya in Mumbai. Anya holds both an M.S. and B.A. in art conservation from the University of Delaware. She began her career at the Museums of New Mexico, which is where she started to develop her community-centered approach to art conservation. Anya’s research interests include archaeological ceramics, non-western collections care practices, and making art/artifact collections more accessible.

WHITNEY DRECHSLER, Esq., CFP®
Vice President, Wealth Planner at U.S. Bank Private Wealth Management
Whitney Drechsler brings together elements of finance and law. After receiving her law degree and working for 5 years as an attorney, she transferred her skills to the realm of finance where she has been since 2015.  In her current role at U.S. Bank she provides comprehensive wealth planning to business owners, real estate investors, and other high net worth clients as well as education and advice on advanced strategies using philanthropic planning, retirement accumulation and distribution planning, income tax planning, and many other components of estate and financial plans. She holds a bachelor of Business Administration, Legal Studies, with a minor in Art History, from the University of Miami, Florida. She received her JD with a focus on Art, Intellectual Property and Contract Law from Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and followed it with an LLM in International Tax and Financial Services. Drechsler also holds the Certified Financial Planner® designation.   

KRISTEN MIHALKO
Director, Operations, Balboa Park Cultural Partnership 
Kristen Mihalko has worked in the nonprofit sector focusing on programming and community building since 2010. As the Director of Operations at the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership, she utilizes her skills in communication, event planning, program development, and IDEA (inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility) to implement programs and offer engagement opportunities that broaden and deepen the Balboa Park experience for all. Her current focus is working with Park organizations through the Parkwide IDEA Working Group, an initiative that provides peer-to-peer support and professional development opportunities to member organizations, to encourage more equitable practices in the Park. Mihalko also serves on two museum association boards: California Association of Museums and Western Museums Association. She has also served on a number of young professional boards: YNPN San Diego, Rising Arts Leaders San Diego, National Emerging Museum Professionals Network, and the San Diego Emerging Museum Professionals. She holds a Master’s Degree in Strategic Communications from National University and a certificate in Arts and Culture Leadership from University of San Diego.

MARY WHELAN
Executive Director of University Design & Collections, University of San Diego 
Mary Whelan is responsible for the aesthetic integrity of USD’s campus and upholding the visual standards for exterior and interior design. Her office maintains the design consistency of the university’s Spanish Renaissance architectural style, while responding to the always-evolving educational environment. Additionally, Whelan is responsible for maintaining, documenting and conserving the Decorative and general Fine Art Collections of the university. She directs placement of these objects from the collection on campus and maintains protocols regarding art in public spaces. Previously Whelan worked for the Mission’s San Diego de Alcala and San Luis Rey de Francia. She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from USD and an MFA from the New York Academy of Art.
